ENG 105: Batman, Beowulf, and Beyond

Pick a personally relevant hero/ine. Choose a specific representation of this hero/ine - i.e., film, novel, comic book, photograph, painting, letter, etc. - and show how it answers the following questions:

What makes a hero/ine heroic? How is he or she different, and what does that difference show about his/her culture?

In order to answer the questions, you will need to consider the context as well as the content of the representation. You will need to know some of what was happening in the world when and where the representation was made, and you should use that knowledge to inform your argument.
